School of Iconography

The School of Iconography was founded in 1995 at the instigation of Superior Brother Francesco Guidorizzi of the Opera San Giovanni Calabria not only with artistic and spiritual aims, but also with the commitment to promote, in an ecumenical spirit, paths of openness, knowledge and dialogue with the Eastern Byzantine world.

The school is led by the iconographers Giovanni Mezzalira from Bressanvido (VI) and Enrico Bertaboni from San Felice del Benaco (BS). It operates in the abbey workshops throughout the year with courses of various types. The courses are open to all and aim to provide concrete access to sacred art.

Works by students of the school can be admired in the abbey, particularly in the Byzantine Chapel in the cloister area and in the Chapel of All Saints in the museum area.
